What is the major theme of this novel? Why is this theme important to a teenage living in 2007?

One of the biggest themes which i believe Golding is trying to show in Lord of the Flies is about human nature. About humans following civilization and listening to older,wiser, people who have gone through more, against following your own personal instincts, which in Lord of the Flies, many of the kids represent their instict to be savagery, angryness, and egocentrism for ones good. Basically, in Lord of the Flies, it is about conflict between true goodness and sin. It might relate to God, in which Christians must give their faith into God for goodness, against a humans instinct to do everything for themselves. This is a great theme and can be represented in many important issues which we humans face in everyday life, especially teenagers. Teens come against peer pressure, a pressure faced to look "cool", by doing drugs, smoking, drinking, pornography, cussing, stealing, or anything along those lines. Many teens are grown by their parents in a good way, to do the right thing. But once we mature into teens and face these conflicts, we must decide to follow the way we were taught to do, or follow these influences. Teens have the ignorance to believe that doing these bad things or think in a bad way may not affect them or their future, but they do not know. Myself i have gone partly through this and i can say that sticking to your heart and your main beliefs is the best way to get by. You can get through the social life of a teen by just being yourself. Do not be self-centered, as there are other people you coincide with whom you might affect. That is evil. This is the main issue of teens in this day and age, and Golding's theme fits with this issue, and we teens should just stick to our hearts. If we all do so, we can be good influences to those who have been influenced in the evil.
